I don't know about you, but I can't wait for the weather to warm up. I'm going to start my spring cleaning early, de-clutter and get organized so I can enjoy spring when it does finally arrive. I'll be starting to post yard sale items - yes, YARD SALE PRICED little things that I have been boxing up to store in the basement for that yard sale that I plan to have someday. Hoping 2009 brings you happiness!

Have a safe & fun New Year's holiday!

For some reason, I don't stick to my resolutions, so I've decided to consider some goals instead. Here's my list. What are yours?

1. Get healthy. I'd like to start walking or exercising (something I am not motivated to do). Anyone up for joining me? Let's organize a BRAT parade! lol This does not include giving up chocolate...one small baby step at a time!

2. Spend wisely. I'm addicted. I admit it. But, with changes this year...I'm going to try to put more money in savings and spend less time looking at sales! Unless I win the lottery, then you can find me at Target. In the meantime, I'm restraining myself. However, shopping at BRAT does not count. :P

3. Finish some home improvement projects. Easier said than done. I wish I could snap my fingers or wave a magic wand...but it's just not going to happen, so it's time I get motivated and finish what I start. Where are my BRAT friends? We can make rounds and take turns. What projects are you working on this year?

4. Continue to promote BRAT and get the word out. It provides a wonderful free service...so, please help to share the love! :) Start the new year off right! Organize your home! List unwanted items for sale to bring in extra cash! It's easy and FREE! Just email bratgirl@butlerbrat.com your ad information or join the BRAT pack and manage your own ads easily! You can even upload photos!

5. Make friends! I love to chat! Join me in the BRAT chat room...making new local friends is a great way to start off 2009!

6. And ... FREE-cycle unwanted items in the BRAT cellar! I don't know about you, but I have things lying around that I know I'll never use but I'll give them away before I'll pitch them. So...what better way than to trade or give away these things than to list them and maybe help out a neighbor? :)

See www.ButlerBRAT.com for more details!

Have a fun week everyone! Thanks for making 2008 a great BRAT year!

DIY Ribbon Wreath

Do It Yourself! Make this very easy, inexpensive ribbon wreath:

Christmas Ribbon Wreath

I saw a black ribbon wreath on a wire frame today and came up with this easy inexpensive holiday alternative!

Easy & Inexpensive Christmas Ribbon Wreath

Time: About 1 hour (Seriously, it took me longer to type these instructions & add photos! Trust me, glitter pumpkins are more difficult and messier!)

Materials:
Ribbon (I used about 35 feet, thick wired ribbon works best and will save you time!), cardboard, scissors, Xacto-knife, coordinating decorative pick/bow

Instructions & tips:

Trace a dinner plate (or your preferred circle for wreath size) on a piece of cardboard with an Xacto knife. You can also trace and cut out with scissors, but that's a little more difficult. Tip: Do it on carpeting so you can really cut through the cardboard without scratching tabletop:

Trace a smaller sized salad plate inside the bigger one:

You should have a cardboard circle like this:

Now, cut ribbon into pieces. I cut about 33 12" strips. You can use any width/length of ribbon. I used 2 1/2 in. Tip: The wider the ribbon, the less work covering the cardboard. I also used wired ribbon so that I could fluff and manipulate the pieces better. :)

Next, you don't have to notch the ends of your ribbon, but I think it give it more of a wreath-y look. Tip: Don't be a perfectionist! Layer ends and cut several notches at once to save time!

Now the fun part! Tie the ribbon around the cardboard ring, knots on the outer edge. I did 1 tie not a double knot since my ribbon is wired and stayed. Continue this step until the entire ring is covered. Note: There will still be cardboard showing but we'll address that in the next step. Tip: For a fuller look, use more ribbon and slide pieces close together.

Next, start another layer filling in the bare spots. This time tie the ribbons in between the first layer to cover up the cardboard. I knotted this layer and place the knot in between the outer and inner edge of the cardboard ring, facing you.

Almost done! Fluff and manipulate the wire ribbon to get a nice shape and to cover all of the cardboard wreath.

Add a bow or the coordinating happy stuff you've chosen like holly, pinecones, Christmas ornaments, candy, etc. Here's an easy to make bow:

Choose a different color wired ribbon. Wrap around 3-4 times into a loop and pinch together in the center.

Tie center with a twist tie.

Use a large piece of ribbon to tie around the center (hiding the twist tie) and cut desired length of bow "tails". Fluff!

TA-DA! A beautiful handmade ribbon wreath created with love by your own two hands!

If you make one - please share your photos with me (email to bratgirl@butlerbrat.com) and I'll post your finished photo in my blog!
